MMM: The perfect toddler-friendly holiday retreat
You may follow my inane waffle on Twitter. If you don’t, I don’t blame you. But if you do, then you may be aware that I went to France on holiday for my first fortnight’s worth of jolly-days in years.
With a tantrum-throwing two and a half year old, plus our six-month old baby, Soneva Fushi or The Banyan Tree isn’t really on our holidaying radar right now.
However, we did go to the Dordogne – the place we honeymooned three years ago and completely fell in love with. Back then, it was all champagne, boutique hotels and staying up late. Now, it’s all about soft-play, SPF factor 50 and, OK, wine by the bucket-load for us.
My clever sister-in-law came across this place in the NCT magazine – and while I can’t say I was as excited as if I had suddenly been whisked off for a weekend in NYC – it looked pretty much heaven for the kids.
A country estate with nine cottages, an indoor soft-play barn, swimming pool, kids club, huge sand pit, climbing frames and even home-made meals available for you AND the kids – Domaine de Peyrecaty was everything we wanted in a holiday.
Number one son and Number one nephew were entertained, outside all day and exhausted by bedtime. We could be in the sunshine, have a home-from-home experience in the cottage (they provide EVERYTHING you could need, from cots to monitors) and enjoy the local vin on our sun-drenched terrace or nip across to the fully licensed bar directly opposite.
Owners Steve and Helen even booked us a British former nurse as a babysitter one evening and we had a NIGHT OUT (!) in the local town. Her husband even drives you there and back.
Basically this was as relaxing a holiday as you can get with children in tow. There is loads to see in the surrounding area (LOADS – we barely scraped the surface of attractions because we couldn’t drag the kids out of the toy-barn) and the scenery is ah-mazing.
In short, we are re-booking for next year. And just so you know, this wasn’t a free holiday. We paid for it all in full. I am recommending as good toddler-friendly / adult-fun holidays are pretty hard to find!
